Chlor-Alkali &
Industrial Salt Supply
Ultra-pure NaCl (≥ 99.0%) for membrane cell, diaphragm cell, and mercury cell electrolysis. Low sulfate, ultra-low Ca/Mg, tested per lot. Strategic bulk supply from Egyptian production.
What Chlor-Alkali Plants Produce
Salt is the primary raw material for the global chlor-alkali industry — producing six critical industrial chemicals from a single brine electrolysis process.
Chlorine Gas (Cl₂)
PVC manufacturing, water treatment, agrochemicals, bleach
Caustic Soda (NaOH)
Alumina, pulp & paper, textiles, soap, food processing
Sodium Hypochlorite
Bleach, water disinfection, pool treatment
Hydrochloric Acid (HCl)
Steel pickling, PVC, pharmaceutical, food processing
Sodium Chlorate (NaClO₃)
Pulp bleaching, herbicides, explosives
Soda Ash (Na₂CO₃)
Glass, detergents, water treatment, chemicals
Cell Technology — Salt Requirements
Different electrolysis cell technologies have different purity requirements. Pelot Salt supplies all three grades.
Membrane Cell
Strictest purity requirements. Ion-exchange membranes are highly sensitive to calcium, magnesium, and sulfate. Pelot membrane-cell grade is treated and tested specifically for this process.
Diaphragm Cell
Wider tolerances than membrane. Pelot extra-pure sea or rock salt typically meets diaphragm cell specifications without additional purification.
Mercury Cell
Least restrictive specification. Standard Pelot industrial salt meets mercury cell requirements. Note: mercury cell technology is being phased out under EU Directive 2017/852.

Why Chlor-Alkali Plants Choose Egyptian Salt
Egyptian sea salt has unique advantages for the chlor-alkali industry — naturally low impurities, consistent quality, and competitive bulk pricing from Mediterranean ports.
Low Ca & Mg
Egyptian sea salt is naturally low in calcium and magnesium due to the evaporation conditions of the North Sinai and Red Sea coastal pans, reducing brine treatment load.
Consistent Quality
Tight process controls at our Egyptian facilities ensure lot-to-lot consistency in purity, grain size, and impurity profile — critical for continuous brine circuit operation.
Full Documentation
COA, X-ray fluorescence trace element analysis, ISO 9001 QC records, and SGS/Bureau Veritas third-party reports available per shipment.
Strategic Supply
Annual supply agreements with monthly or quarterly shipments. Buffer stock held in Egypt for emergency top-up. Vessel and container supply.
Sea Salt Advantage
Egyptian sea salt from North Sinai and the Red Sea coast has naturally low sulfate vs. many mined rock salts, giving chlor-alkali plants lower sulfate removal costs in the brine purification circuit.
Scale Supply
From 24 MT container trial shipments to 50,000+ MT annual vessel supply. We scale with your plant capacity — from pilot to full production.
Brine Purification Compatibility
All Pelot Salt chlor-alkali grade salt is designed to work with standard brine purification systems. Even with our low-Ca/Mg sea salt, we recommend standard precipitation treatment (NaOH + Na₂CO₃) before membrane cell input. We can share our salt's impurity profile in advance for your brine chemist to evaluate — contact us with your plant spec sheet.
Supply Formats
From 24 MT trial containers to annual vessel supply agreements. We scale with your plant.
Bulk Vessel
Handysize / Supramax. FOB Alexandria, El Dekhila, or Port Said. Most cost-effective for plants consuming 10,000+ MT/year. Monthly or quarterly vessel schedules.
Bulk Container
20' FCL bulk with container liner. For smaller plants, trials, or top-up supply. Door-to-door CIF available.
1,000 kg FIBC
Jumbo bags for controlled dissolving and hopper feeding. Useful for plants with FIBC dissolvers or small brine circuits.
25 kg PP Bags
For pilot plant operations, R&D, or specialist chemical processes. Full COA per pallet. Custom label available.
